EFE’75. History of the First Spanish News Agency

EFE news agency is the leading Spanish-language international news service, and it is the fourth in the world ranking. The EFE agency decided to employ Unit Experimental’s augmented reality for the exhibition celebrating its 75th anniversary, “EFE’75: History of the First Global Spanish-language Agency”. The exhibition was held in the Casa del Lector, Madrid, Spain, from May 27th 2014 to January 11th, 2015.

The app developed by Unit Experimental in collaboration with Jesús Moreno & Asociados allows the audience to access “hidden” contents (videos, audios, interactive notebooks, image galleries, etc.) through a tablet or mobile device. Such contents are “planted” in many of the photographs, objects and documents exhibited.

The app also includes a game based upon the Baudot code, invented in 1874, which was employed by the EFE Agency all the way up to the 1980s. This code allows to write in the same way news was elaborated internally, and then translate it to the usual Latin alphabet, thus producing a message that can be published through social media.
